Introductions Of GFA 2009 Registered

  • 2-27-2009

In an effort to get the ball rolling and maximize the connections at GFA 2009, registered participants requested they submit "in their own words" what they offer and would like to accomplish.    As we receive their submissions they will be posted below with the most current submitted posted at the top.

Paul L. Watts, Business Development Officer, Business Development Officer with Export–Import Bank of the United States.

Ex-Im Bank, as it’s known, is the independent U.S. Government agency charged by Congress to provide “credit assistance” to small American businesses selling and exporting goods and/or services to foreign buyers. This assistance is provided by way of direct Commercial Credit Risk Insurance to the exporters; and U.S. Government Guarantees to lenders.  Such Guarantees enable lenders to make credit accommodations to both U.S. exporters and foreign buyers with the foreign receivables as collateral. I look forward to meeting you soon...as it's almost here!

Phil Werdal - Trace Register, LLC

Trace Register is a global food traceability company that offers web-based, supply chain traceability for producers, marketers, or certifiers of food products. The Trace Register™ system fully supports the needs of programs that address food safety, sustainability, social responsibility, and/or brand assurance. We’re headquartered in Seattle, and also have offices in China and Japan.  Our primary goal in attending Global Food Alaska is to introduce our system to companies and marketing cooperatives in Alaska that want to assure their buyers that the products they are purchasing are, in fact, grown or created in Alaska.  Our slogan, “Helping you trust what you buy,” is added reassurance to buyers that they are getting “the real thing.”

Marine Stewardship Council, Kerry Coughlin, Communications Director.  As a sponsor and participant in Global Food Alaska, MSC hopes to highlight the value and global market benefits of being certified to use the MSC trustmark. Many of the world’s seafood-related businesses, from the largest, most well-known retail chains to small independent restaurants, have committed to sourcing their seafood from MSC-certified fisheries, including seafood they purchase from Alaska.  The Alaska seafood industry has been a pioneering partner with MSC and a beneficiary of the marketing edge it gives to Alaska’s sustainable seafood.  The MSC will be on hand at GFA 2009 to help fisheries, processors, suppliers and buyers of Alaska seafood with information about the MSC program, and to learn how the MSC can bring even greater market reward to one of the world’s leading examples of sustainable fishing. For more information, please visit www.msc.org.  And come see us in June at GFA 2009!

Bryce Wrigley, The Salcha-Delta Soil and Water Conservation District is tasked with developing conservation measures and practices to conserve soil and water resources. We also assist in the orderly development of agricultural land. One of the most critical factors in sustainable development of agricultural land is access to markets, therefore the District has undertaken a number of initiatives to feed and fuel Alaska with sustainable, locally grown fuel and food. Our goal in participating in Global Food Alaska is to exhibit many of the products grown in the Delta area and identify potential markets for those products. In addition, we desire to collaborate with other supply chain partners to identify which of their needs Alaskan farms can supply. The range of products that are or might be available is surprising and include barley for fuel and feed, hulless barley for flour and soups, wheat for flour and cereal, canola oil for cooking, vegetables, beef, pork, yak, elk, bison, cheese, milk, and ice cream. A wide range of rhubarb products has been developed including juice, jams and jellies, and for use in pies. Farmers are growing canola and have used it in equipment last year. It is possible that a biodegradable  hydraulic oil could be developed for use in environmentally sensitive applications.  We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible to match your needs with our resources.

ADI offers a number of treatment solutions for industries:
High-strength wastewater treatment: First, we offer a variety of anaerobic technologies designed to easily treat the high-strength waste often generated by industrial plants, including high and low-rate systems, and anaerobic membrane bioreactors (MBRs). These systems are often used for pretreatment prior to discharge to a municipal treatment system.
Water Reuse/Recycle: Second, we offer a variety of aerobic technologies that can be used to polish the anaerobic effluent to a quality suitable for disposal or reuse, or can be used as stand-alone treatment. Our membrane bioreactor system, the ADI-MBR, is based on the world's leading MBR technology and can produce reuse-quality water within an easy-to-operate, small-footprint package.
Waste-to-Energy: We also offer systems for the digestion of waste solids or other organic materials, which incorporate energy recovery in the form of biogas. The energy recovered is often a significant portion of the plant energy needs.

Mountains rising high above, sun glistening on the ocean surf as it rolls in onto the sandy beach...Remote Alaska.  Alaska Meat Company (AMC) is based out of Kodiak Island.  AMC receives all its red meat from a newly built portable meat processing facility called the Multi-Location Abattoir (MLA) that travels to even the most remote island locations around Alaska.  Island ranches with cattle, bison, and reindeer abound with pristine naturally raised livestock that roam free on lush grasslands in a wild environment.  Each herd can be traced back to their first introduction to their islands- animals that have developed a hardy breed of their own.
AMC is developing a new product: All-Natural "Alaska Island Beef"- a fully cooked, shelf stable grass-fed beef product that is very lean and healthy, high in Omega 3, and requires no refrigeration.  8 and 16 ounce packages are available in three flavors- Regular, BBQ, and Alaskan.  Using sea salt and all natural ingredients ensures a safe, healthy food for you.  As an Alaska Big Game Guide and Island Cowboy, I take this product along where ever I go- in the saddle bag or four-wheeler, in hunting camp, hiking, fishing, even when I travel.   It is also on my pantry shelf and glove box in case of a power outage or emergency.  These convenience products are a must for outdoor enthusiasts, and if you find yourself on a boat or remote camp where refrigeration is not available, this is the product for you!  It is a healthy choice for families to throw together a quick and delicious meal.
