Cordova is located on the eastern edge of Prince William Sound in one of Alaska's most scenic locations. Only 150 miles southeast of Anchorage, Cordova can only be reached by air or water and is home to the genuine Copper River Salmon. With only weeks away from the first run of salmon and the long awaited days of summer, we are offering a few profiles and links in this issue of Collaborative INSIGHTS that give you a window into this community. We hope you enjoy getting acquainted. Kodiak Positioning To Play A Stronger Role In Alaska's Gulf Coast

The
City of Kodiak is either being proactive with respect to the issues
associated with "carbon foot print" or it has a modified business
strategy or both.
Kodiak is well on its way to creating the
infrastructure to support larger vessels who may no longer have to
travel the
2500 mile round-trip to west coast maintenance yards for services.
While we've previously reported on the
geography and general business
on the island, we thought you might be interested in learning more
about plans at Kodiak's port. Kodiak is well on its way to broaden
its capacity and
services that may well impact the food supply chain - at least that of
seafood. It all starts with Kodiak's plans for a heavy lift 600 ton
crane with a travel lift -
nearly 6 stories high that will handle vessels up to 180 feet.
Currently there is nothing on the western gulf that exists to service
these vessels for maintenance and repair and Kodiak is hoping to soon
hang out is shingle and be open for business. Seeing The Dividends

The New World Port - The Prince Rupert Port Authority produces an e:newsletter on the latest
developments at their port. As Alaskans continue to be challenged by
distance and geography, this Port continues to be of interest for
access to/from the lower 48 states due to their rail/tidewater
connection and for access to/from Asia and their focus for facilitating
