What's new to buy? That's one of the most frequent questions we get at CI. While telling the story is important - commercial buyers are driven by time pressures that require them to cut to the chase and source.

The recently completed, annual Alaska Symphony of Seafood awards is an excellent way to highlight exactly what is new and, beyond that - what consumers and experts find appealing. American Pride Seafoods won two of the top three medals this year within the Foodservice category awards competition. The new products include American Pride Seafood's, Chef’s Special Collection™ Zesty Lemon Flounder and its Pank-O-Licious™ Kickin’ Buffalo Deep Skinned Alaska Pollock Sliders. Bryan Elmore, American Pride Seafood’s Marketing Manager said, “We are honored to receive these awards and we are very pleased with the success that our customers are experiencing with our new products. This is a testament to the homework we do with our customers to develop new and exciting product concepts to market”.

American Seafoods Group is responsible for creating finished, sustainable seafood products for national and international markets and is one of the largest integrated seafood companies in the U.S. It operates in two principal business segments, American Seafoods Company, the At-Sea Harvesting (Alaska) division and American Pride Seafoods, the Land-Based, value added processing and scallop processing division (Massachusetts). These core operations are complemented by other American Seafoods offices in Asia and Europe.
The Process At Sea
Am erican Seafoods Company is the largest harvester in the United States Bering Sea fishery with approximately 45% catcher-processor quota share. The U.S. Bering Sea pollock fishery, located off the coast of Alaska, is the largest commercial finfish fishery in the United States. The at-sea harvesting segment includes the harvesting and process of pollock, cod, hake and yellowfin sole. American Seafoods is the largest at-sea porcessor of pollock and hake in the US. Each of their at-sea processors has quality assurance technicians and testing labs onboard to ensure that the products produced at sea meet world-class quality standards. American Seafoods maintains an international marketing network for these species through its U.S., Japan and European offices.
The Process Of Research and Development
American Pride Seafoods retains a world-class staff of research and development chefs at their Massachusetts facility. These creative chefs stay close to market trends that may include special flavors, price points, preparation styles, portion sizes and nutrition. They work with the harvested species to create new products that are in line with food service and retail trends as the product comes to market. The development team also customizes additional wild and farmed species for American Pride’s customers. While the research and development efforts, remain highly confidential, like in most companies - the products are repeatedly pre-tested through focus groups and other market research methods across a variety of demographics.
The Process Of Manufacturing and Marketing
It is then that a value added product, such as those recently featured at the Symphony of Seafood may be integrated into the value added line and prepared for and distributed to North American and select international customers.
This is the role of American Pride Seafood's.
