Culinary Tourism 2009
- 3-15-2009
- Categorized in: International Culinary and Agri Tourism
This is a new niche tourism and food sector available to Alaska producers of food, beverage and bio products . It marries the tourism and food industry with culinary tours (eco-tourism). As some of you are aware - recent surveys by tour operators have proved out that tourists come to Alaska for 1) animals/nature 2) glaciers 3) FOOD. We are working with Explore Tours to help package and promote tours for summer of 2009. We know there is more and more interest by independent travelers to have custom tours and meet/spend time with Alaskans. This means that visitors are paying to spend time with Alaskans - work along side them fishing, farming, etc. This visitor type wants to see Alaska through the eyes of someone who may have unique and "off the road" offerings. Please consider packaging a few nights lodging and tours for your area, region, community that may include your business and send it our way!
It is our intent to establish a handful of tours for 2009 and continue to expand for 2010 and beyond.
Culinary Tourism/Eco Tourism can range from micro-brew tours/cruises, commercial fishing experiences, working a ranch, farm or set-net site, to berry picking. For more ideas check out Foodtrekker.com.
As you can see, international culinary tourism can tie in all below.......and we have have elements all over Alaska that simply needed to be connected and packaged to see this marriage between food/beverage and agri-products AND the tourism industry.
