RFP Details
Proposals will be limited to
$15,000-$75,000, begin on July 1, 2008 and not to exceed 1 year. Proposal areas include:
Co-Product Recovery
• Technological advances for handling and segregating salmon parts during processing,
including heads, skins and viscera (e.g. milt & livers);
• Cost effective methods of separating, handling, stabilizing and/or storing of salmon parts to
maintain quality;
• Specific co-products to be developed from heads, skins and/or segregated viscera;
• Studies on refined materials from salmon processing for product development;
• Cost analysis of recovery options for export of salmon oil versus use as local bio-fuel;
• Value of quality control and HAACP in market acceptance of salmon co-products.
Transportation & Handling
• Transportation scenarios for centralized processing of stabilized salmon waste in Southeast
Alaska, Prince William Sound, Southcentral Alaska or Bristol Bay (Southwest Alaska);
• Improvements in packaging and handling materials, including recyclable and temperature
stable options.
Funding
for this RFP is through the Southeast Sustainable Salmon Fund with AFDF
as a sub-recipient. Proposals will need to provide the information in
the attached Statement of Work. All information should be inputted in
MS Word format in 12 pt Times New Roman font. Each budget item should
be fully justified. Equipment purchased for the project with these
grant funds will be returned to AFDF upon completion of the project for
disposal in accordance with state and federal grant regulations.

Round all funds to nearest dollar. The State of Alaska fiscal year is July 1st to June 30th;
